United Republic of Tanzania recognizes that the emerging use of
Internet services has created another divide – a Digital Divide among
countries and regions. Tanzania has created an inclusive and
people-centered program called “National development Vision 2025”.
Tanzania faces numerous challenges to be integrated in the information
society, such as high cost of access to ICTs facilities, inadequate
absorption capacity; limited ICTs based training and poor
infrastructure. Tanzania launched programs in the areas of e-Government,
e-Health, e-Education, e-Agriculture, e-Business and e-Commerce.
Tanzania realizes that only a partnership between government, private
sector, development cooperating partners and civil society can
consolidate an information and knowledge society. Financial resources
will be required to bridge the digital divide. In this regard, Tanzania
supports the idea of a Digital Solidarity Fund. Internet services should
become less costly, more efficient and more secure. The media plays an
important role in the creation of an information society.
