Sweden starts
its speech with the example of Afghanistan’ s women who were able to sell
carpets using the internet, as they are carpet weavers in Afghanistan. These
women are an unusual example of how ICTs can benefit to the poor. In Sweden,
the use of ICTs is seen as the main dynamic force of economy. For many years
Sweden has been at the forefront of ICTs development. Besides the clear link
between ICTs and economic development, Sweden believes also that ICTs
contribute to gender equality and that they are a tool for a faster
integration of women into society. In this regard, Sweden supports the
Gender Caucus for the Nordic, initiative focusing on Gender and ICTs. As a
strategy to fight the digital divide, Sweden also supports the program
“Global eSchools and Communities Initiative.
The international
cooperation is vital , but it is also important to point out that each
country must also take the responsibility itself to secure its own
development.
