Swaziland says that our challenge is to turn the digital divide into a
digital opportunity for all. We should be worried in building an information
society not only for ourselves but also for future generations. Therefore,
each country must empower the young generation to be the future developers,
creators and users of ICTs, trying to bridge the digital divide. Swaziland
delegation recognizes that bridging the digital divide is a major challenge,
particularly for developing countries.
The
“bridge” requires strong commitment and solidarity from all stakeholders .
Developed countries and financial institutions play an important role,
providing technical and financial assistance. Swaziland gives a special
importance to the areas of finance and trade. Its initiatives in this areas
have been the development of a telecommunications policy, of a draft ICT
policy, of a draft telecommunications legislation and the assessment of
e-Readiness. The Swaziland delegation supports the call for freedom of
expression for media.
