The Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia
believes that
to embrace ICTs constitute a decisive step for advancement and
development of the economic, social and cultural potential of the
States. The Saudi Arabia, realizing the importance of the
telecommunications and information sector has been modernized in the
last five years, the telecommunications network extending also this
national plan to the remotest rural areas. The actual gap between
countries can be bridged by joining efforts to ensure universal access
to ICTs in order to establish an information society based on equality
of opportunities. The two documents containing the Declaration of
Principles and the Plan of Action are very important for the consistence
of an information society, where everyone could share benefits and where
the promotion of contact and dialogue among nations could be
implemented. Cultural identity, educational and linguistic diversity
must be respected.
Saudi Arabia proposes the establishment of clear mechanisms to regulate
the “new society” in order to minimize or even to eliminate its negative
aspects and the creation of an international law to ensure that the
Internet is being used on an equitable and transparent manner. The
country wishes to cooperate to the achievement of the WSIS' goals.
