The Republic of
China,
affirms that the information industry plays a significant role in its
economic and social development. Electronic and information products
represent, in fact, the largest industry of the country. In the first 20
years of this century, China intends to develop economy, to improve
democracy, achieve higher levels of science and education, to ensure that
more people will benefit from informatization and industrialization, by
creating infrastructures to expand the use of information technologies.
Govermnents, international organizations, private sectors and civil
societies should be encouraged to cooperate in order to build the
information society. China insists on the fact that social and cultural
diversity must be respected. Measures must be taken to prevent the use of
information technologies for pornographic, violent and terrorist purposes.
