Chile
is on the
road to the Information Society. 4 millions of Chileans with more than 6
years old are connected to the Internet. Chile wants a democratic and
open information society. it believes that we should take advantage of
the opportunities that the Internet gives us to build more advanced
societies based on public, private and civil society consensuses, Chile
has developed a strategy to expand the connectivity, to impulse the
education and the digital capacity, to modernize the services to
citizen, to extend the use of technologies in the enterprises, to
improve the efficacy of social policies and to promote the cultural
diversity.
The information society for all, faces three challenges. In the first
place, the problem of poverty and asymmetries in the distribution of the
access. The second challenge is to achieve a balance between the
protection of intellectual property and the necessity to assure
unlimited access to the cultural patrimony of humanity. The third is to
balance safety and citizen rights.
