The Bangladesh
underlines that it has placed poverty alleviation on the top of its
development agenda. ICTs appear as a tool to fight hunger,
malnutrition, illiteracy, as well as discrimination against women, children,
aged and disabled. Therefore, the need of ICTs infrastructures and human
resources is urgent. The main objective of Bangladesh is to build, until
2006, a knowledge-based society and to establish an ICT infrastructure to
provide access to information for all citizens.
Bangladesh reminds that
we live in an asymmetric world and that the challenges faced by poor
countries to build an information society come from, above all, a lack of
resources and ICT infrastructure. In this regard the need for both regional
and international cooperation is vital.
