Austria supports the idea of a
truly global Information Society. It says that the new society has to be
built on the reaffirmation of the 1993 “Vienna Declaration and Program of
Action” adopted by the “World Conference on Human Rights”. Austria welcomes
the main goal of the World Summit to reduce the digital divide. It affirms
that public authorities, private sector and civil society have to search for
efficient strategies to fight against the digital gap.
Austria believes that the respect for cultural and linguistic diversity is a
prerequisite for a sustainable development and thinks that emphasis should
be given to the creation of varied information contents. It hopes that all
countries agree about the necessity of international solidarity in sharing
and dissemination of knowledge, ideas and experiences.
